Overview

Post-object artist James Charlton is testing the limits of interactive art in this new major installation at Te Uru.

THROWN sees a series of free-standing mechanical structures launch hundreds of yellow tennis balls into the air before being collected by a team of voluntary agents. The installation challenges visitors to think of their own position within the exhibition, as they stand in the designated strike zone and dodge flying tennis balls. It intends to throw your sense of what art is, and question whether you are the audience, participant, performer, or object.

The tenth edition of Artweek Auckland returns between 10–18 October to celebrate our city's diverse artistic community. Featuring exhibitions, happenings and workshops across ten precincts, each area aims to highlight its unique place in Auckland's artistic landscape. This year's eight-day celebration is packed with over 50 late-night events, free guided tours, drawing clubs, exhibitions and beverage tastings for art aficionados.
