Japanese Film Festival 2018
Four days of top flicks from the far east.
Overview
Everyone loves a good collab, and we've got great news for lovers of all things Japanese. The Embassy of Japan is teaming up with the Academy Cinemas and University of Auckland to present the 2018 Japanese Film Festival.
This year's festival boasts a mouthwatering program featuring six award-winning Japanese films over two days. With contemporary favourites such as Close-Knit, Survival Family and Yoko the Cherry Blossom in its lineup, the festival spans a range of genres and has something for everyone. The hardest part is choosing which ones to watch.
Or if you're really up for the challenge, why not do a marathon and just watch them all? Check out the full program and start making plans.
Best of all, the festival is completely free. You can even avoid the booking fee on the Academy Cinema's website — just rock up to the box office and book in person. Another handy hint: it's a good idea to show up to the screening early. Not only are seats first-come, first-serve, a short documentary about Japanese culture will play before each film starts.
The festival runs from Thursday, 22 November to Sunday, 25 November. All films are in Japanese with English subtitles.
