Fill the void left by the slew of cancelled summer festivals with this all-ages, online music event.

Overview

Most of the country's late-summer music festivals have been canned under the new red setting in our COVID-19 traffic light framework, so they don't become Omicron super-spreader events (cough, Soundsplash, cough).

If you're looking for something to fill the void left by cancelled events like One Love and Summer Classic this long weekend, this might be just the ticket.

Annual all-ages music event Kotahi Festival, usually held at Kahurangi School in Strathmore, is a staple on the Wellington Waitangi calendar. Established in 2014, the community event usually attracts over 3000 locals, as well as major NZ music acts like Tike Tane, Ria Hall and Anika Moa.

This year, thanks to new red level capacity limits, the festival will be looking a little different: a free, three hour streaming special on Sunday, February 6.

Headlined by none other than festi-faves Fat Freddy's Drop and supported by local acts The Bakers Three, The Nudge and DJ Magnetter, you can tune in on the Kotahi's Facebook and YouTube pages, and hold your own mini-festival in your lounge, on your deck or even on the beach. Just make sure to stick to capacity limits wherever you're partying.

Grab some kai, some friends or even the whole whānau and tune in from 3pm.
