Lake Street Drive

Multi-instrumental genre-bending that actually sounds good.

Overview

After dropping by for WOMAD and the 2015 Auckland Arts Festival, Brooklyn-based band Lake Street Drive are scheduled back down under for a return visit. Founded in 2004 in Boston, the initial idea for the group was to create a 'free country band'. The concept of loosely assembled music was quickly abandoned in favor of something that "actually sounded good", combining everything from Southern rock, indie-pop, blue-eyed soul, jazz, folk-rock and Motown.

That diversity is translated onstage via an impressive arsenal of instruments, with members continuously swapping between ukulele, guitar, trumpet, organ, synthesizer, standup bass, piano and drums to mold the energy of the room.

Lake Street Dive will play their first New Zealand headline show at the Tuning Fork on Wednesday, January 11. The show will be in support of their 2016-released debut album, Side Pony.
