Laneway Pre-Party: Iceage

Morose piano balladeering, sprightly country-rock figures and distinctly Irish-sounding drinking anthems.

Overview

As a warm up to this year's Laneway Festival, much-buzzed Danish punk-rock band Iceage will take the stage at Auckland's Kings Arm Tavern.

The recently added Laneway performers emerged from the Copenhagen hardcore scene in their teens. After releasing their fierce  debut New Brigade, the band took an unexpected left-turn with an emotional follow-up record, You’re Nothing. It worked in their favour and saw them pen a deal with US indie label Matador, while picking up positive reviews from a hoard of critics. The foursome's latest release, Plowing in the Field of Love, saw them expand their unique brand of inventive, romance punk even further. Pitchfork described the evolution as "morose piano balladeering, sprightly country-rock figures and distinctly Irish-sounding drinking anthems."

Out of the studio, the band are known for their raucous live performances. For the Laneway pre-party Iceage will be joined by Auckland’s Trust Punks and sere.

Tickets will only be available on the door for $35 or $15 for Laneway ticket holders.
