Overview

There are ample reasons Le1f is considered to be the future of hip hop. As well as flamboyant style, provocative lyrics, and a forward-thinking approach to production, the New York native is gay and is trained in ballet and modern dance.

Starting out producing beats for Brooklyn hip hop group Das Racist, his knack for experimental beats caught the attention of US label Greedhead Music, leading to the release of his debut mixtape Dark York in 2012. The lead single ‘Wut’ was a viral hit, reaching 3 million views on YouTube.

The Auckland show on January 16 at Neck of the Woods follows hot on the heels of Le1f’s studio debut album, Riot Boi which draws inspiration from the Riot Grrl movement and artists like M.I.A. and Missy Elliott. With the release he also aimed to make music "you can either dance to or cry to."
