Overview

Levi Patel is an young and emerging Auckland composer who has won widespread acclaim after releasing two solo records and several singles. He takes a refreshing approach to classical music crafting rich and layered soundscapes using minimalist piano and intricate string sections, as well as the occasional electronic flourish.

At only 25 his sound has taken on a cinematic quality, displaying an emotional intensity and technical mastery usually discovered far later in a composer's career. That explains why so many are excited for his first full-length album, Affinity. It's a project that has been in the pipeline for three years, and will finally release on April 8.

To celebrate the release Levi will be filling the Auckland Art Gallery with his signature sound, playing at 3pm alongside Gala Morris on bass and vocals, Corban Koschak on guitar and vocals and Chris Park on cello and keys. Take a stroll through the New Zealand Art Room, and stay a while to take in the sounds of one of New Zealand's rising composers.
