Overview

Boys, prepare to be reminded of your school adolescent days, both happy, and not so.

The Auckland Theatre Company brings to life Nigel Williams' theatre adaption of Nobel Prize-winning Lord of the Flies to the Maidment Theatre this September.

Directed by ATC artistic director Colin McColl, with an impressive young all-male cast lead by Leon Wadham (Go Girls, Shopping) and Jordan Mooney (Anne Boleyn, The Heretic), Lord of the Flies is a story of power, survival and the struggles of todays’ adolescent.

A group of school boys become stranded on an island after a massive disaster. The story quickly evolves into a battle of power as the boys struggle for survival and existence. It’s not long before the inevitable happens when you have a group of adolescent boys in one room. Rebellion and chaos erupts in the survivor-style island adventure.

The boys are entangled in a clash between the civilised and the wild where by day the boys exist in paradise, but as night falls their dreams are taken over by a terrifying beast. The boys begin to take sides, some choose the peaceful and co-operative, others take the unruly approach, and it’s not long before the battle becomes every-man-for-himself.

Lord of the Flies investigates many issues that remain central to the lives of today’s adolescents – rules, morals, peer pressure, bullying and gang rivalry. This show opens the spring theatre season with power and boldness.
