Mac DeMarco

Jizz jazz and jangly guitar.

Overview

Mac DeMarco is a laid back dude. He describes his own musical style as jizz-jazz, smokes like a train, has a large tooth gap, and seems to have quite a soft spot for opshop fashion.

DeMarco was last in town for Laneway Festival in February where he played an afternoon set in the sweltering heat. Memories are hazy to say the least. He was set to return in January to play Echo Festival at Vector Arena, though is now playing not one but two headline shows at the Kings Arms Tavern to make up for the lack of festival performance.

Since signing to Captured Tracks in 2012 DeMarco has released five LPs. Not bad for a 25-year-old from small town Canada. His instantly recognisable jangly tunes began to attract larger crowds the world over after Salad Days was released to widespread acclaim in 2014. His most recent release, Another One has seen him continue on that same trail of low key second hand get ups, late night musings, and cheap cigarettes.
