Overview

Mixing It Up is an initiative that allows to you stay hydrated while creating a masterpiece. After noticing the success of wine and painting events internationally, visual arts graduate Laurie Merk and social worker Cassandra Ruhe-Hodge were inspired to start their own party.

Events are currently held at restaurants and community venues across the city. To mark the arrival of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) — the Central American holiday that honours those who have passed — the Mixing It Up team will swap out the usual glass of vino for margaritas.

While sipping on the signature version at Half Moon Bay Mexican restaurant Marina Cantina, participants will put their spin on a calavera (or sugar skull). The representation of a human skull is traditionally decorated with folk art to celebrate those who have passed.

No previous experience or artistic skills are needed as guests will be guided step-by-step through the two-hour session. All the appropriate tools are supplied to make your own masterpiece, so you can simply put on an apron, devour your taco of the day and translate your head trip on paper.

The ticket price includes all materials, your first margarita and a taco of the day.
