Overview

Everyone's favourite magical nanny returned in a charming sequel last year, with Emily Blunt leading the charge in a most delightful way. Striking while the iron is hot, the supercalifragilistic Mary Poppins musical is returning to Auckland more than half a century since it first made the leap from page to screen.

Originally scheduled to play at Takapuna's Bruce Mason Theatre in April, the high-flying family musical will now land at The Civic from 16 October to 1 November with an all-local cast. The stage production arrives courtesy of the company behind last year's Les Miserables stage show and previous visiting productions such as Evita, Sister Act, Mamma Mia! and Phantom of the Opera.

Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, the world's favourite nanny is brought to the stage with dazzling choreography, incredible effects and, of course, unforgettable songs. The score features hit showtunes including 'A Spoonful of Sugar', 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious', 'Jolly Holiday', 'Let's Go Fly a Kite', 'Step in Time', and 'Chim Chiminey'.

The original production first opened in December 2004, winning awards for its choreography and scenic design. It was last in Auckland in 2012, breaking an eight-year box office record.
