Overview

As any good Jedi knows, May the Fourth is International Star Wars Day and to celebrate, Auckland's Stardome Observatory is hosting three special planetarium shows to honour the galactic empire on Wednesday, May 4.

Tickets holders will have the opportunity to watch a Star Wars-themed night sky presentation on the 360-degree dome, exploring the planets of the famous franchise and learning what it takes to fly across the Milky Way to galaxies far, far away. Everyone is welcome, even if you've gone to The Dark Side.

Stormtroopers from the 501st Legion will be in attendance to patrol the event on the lookout for Rebel scum – and maybe take some photos with fans. Dressing up as your favourite Star Wars character is encouraged – do so and you'll be in to win a prize or two.

Three 50-minute sessions will be running across the evening, one at 6pm, one at 7.15pm and the last one 8.30pm. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for children, seniors and students, and organisers say bookings are essential.
