Overview

After going green for winter with a vegetarian set menu, Saan in Ponsonby is bringing back its meatless offering every Monday for October.

Head chef Say Polvit has created 14 new vegetarian dishes for the modern Northern Thai restaurant. Entree options include salted tofu on perilla leaf, roasted eggplant dip with crispy tofu curd and twice-cooked tofu rolls with taro, water chestnut and sweet plum dipping sauce. For the main course diners will have the choice of eggplant and tofu with straw mushroom, tofu red curry, and spicy vermicelli larb with black fungus. To finish is a warm sago pudding served with taro, young coconut and smoked coconut milk.

Krishna Botica, co-owner of Saan, says, "It's not just vegetarians and vegans choosing to go meat-free anymore; many of our diners are choosing to forgo meat for health and environmental reasons. As a business with a conscience, we are always looking to be better in the way that we operate and deliver for our customers. Meat-free Monday is part of that ethos."

Saan's meat-free menu will be available every Monday evening from 30 September to 28 October.
