Overview

Dilapidated Mt Eden theatre The Crystal Palace was the subject of Please Open, a 2015 Loading Docs documentary short film produced by the creative studio Monster Valley. During filming, the team fell head over heels for the historic space and devised a plan to bring The Crystal Palace back from the brink. Now charged with it's rejuvenation, Monster Valley have called on a few friends to kick-start the investment fund needed to transform the theatre into a fully functional venue and creative hub for the Auckland arts community.

Setting the bar ostentatiously high, Mockasin, Arabia and Finn is the first benefit event for the restoration fund, and the first concert at the venue since Monster Valley has taken the reins. All proceeds from the show will be invested back into the theatre and audiences get to bear witness to a very special music event. Connan Mockasin, Lawrence Arabia and Liam Finn are set to celebrate their decade long friendship, taking the stage together for the first time in seven years.

No strangers to musical collaboration – the trio briefly joined forces for the 'super group' BARB, releasing an album in the summer of 2010 – Mockasin, Arabia and Finn will mine back catalogue diamonds and experiment with reimagined versions of each others works. Supported by dream-pop outfit Fazerdaze, the concert guarantees an evening of musical fireworks not to be missed.
