Overview
When cafe owners Mira and Paul introduce an ambitious UK chef into their Samoan-helmed kitchen, tension boils over and all parties are forced to re-examine their roles and loyalties. As they attempt to save their Grey Lynn business, the pair are confronted by the fragility of their work, family and the repercussions of their decisions.
Directed by Best NZ Emerging Filmmaker recipient Lisa Burd, Monterey is a story about hope and dreams for a brighter future through collective effort. It shows us that when uninvited change is encountered, individual needs become greater than the collective.
In partnership with the Documentary Edge Festival and Auckland Restaurant Month, Monterey will screen for free in the Auckland Art Gallery Auditorium on Sunday 7 August. Seating allocated on a first come, best choice basis.
