Overview
Twenty nineteen was the year the plant-based diet really took flight, with a host of imitation meat products landing on supermarket shelves and grease-loaded fauxnimal fast foods creating hype. Moving into the new year the Golden Globes even adopted a plant-based menu in an effort to reduce meat consumption.
Closer to home, one of the biggest meat-alternative brands in North America is launching in New Zealand with an Auckland pop-up. From its own commissioned survey, the Kelloggs-owned brand MorningStar Farms claims that 48 percent of Kiwis are planning on reducing their meat intake in 2020.
The brand's Uber Eats ghost restaurant will run from January 22 to January 29 (closed on January 26 and 27) with a selection of vegetarian and vegan meals from $5 a pop. Using MorningStar Farms products, the menu will feature a spicy Mexican-style burger, a classic cheese burger, spaghetti bolognese, burritos and chicken nuggets.
It will be open via the Uber Eats app between 5–9pm on the select dates.
