Overview

There's nothing like a bit of big screen movie magic to get you into the Christmas spirit, especially when that involves diving deep into some classics. This year, you can get your festive fix courtesy of MOTAT, when it screens a range of festive flicks in the lead up to December 25 — at a drive-in.

Running on select dates between Friday, December 17–Thursday, December 24, the movie lineup includes all the films that make this time of year extra merry — starting with Die Hard because, yes, it always counts as a Christmas flick. There's also Home Alone, because it wouldn't be the jolliest time of the year without it; the Will Ferrell-starring Elf, given that the same rules apply; and both How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Polar Express.

The movies will screen on New Zealand's largest outdoor screen, with doors opening at 7pm and the projector cranking up at 9pm. Spots are limited, so we suggest booking your $30-per-car ticket early. And, it's worth noting that the event will only go ahead if Auckland reaches either orange or green in NZ's traffic light COVID-19 protection framework.
