Overview

How about a road trip and a free outdoor movie for a slightly left-of-centre Friday night? The first of the summer season of Auckland Council's free Movies in Parks series plays in the beautiful, riverside, Tamakae reserve. Catch is, it's in Waiuku around 45 minutes south of the city centre.

There's few better places to watch a movie though, and thanks to the travel distance you may just be able to grab prime viewing real estate with your picnic blanket if you arrive on time. The new Ghostbusters reboot will be on the big screen, a twist on the classic '90s film that sees Kristen Wiig in hilarious form, and Melissa McCarthy being boisterous as usual. Bring the fam, the friends or someone special, dust off the deck chairs and get along to the year's first free outdoor film. Choice.
