Overview

In this daring and thought provoking piece of documentary theatre, renowned playwright James McCaskill dramatises the experiences of real women who have been affected by domestic violence. Up-and-coming Kiwi actress Kali Hopae plays five characters in a raw and honest performance, revealing the despair and damage behind the masks of those affected, in an effort to raise awareness of the plights of countless New Zealand women.

Developed in association with Te Whāriki Manawāhine ō Hauraki, the women's refuge which features heavily in the play, this is theatre at its most integrous and passionate. Sold out shows, best actress and best play awards, indicate that critics and audiences feel the same about this moving piece of theatre art. Playing for a limited time in Auckland’s Q Theatre on Queen Street, this is an outstanding exploration of a narrative which is all too common in New Zealand and a play which should not be missed.
