Overview
Concrete Playground has three double passes to give away to the NZ Boutique Wine Festival. Click here to enter.
No matter what the occasion, wine is always the answer. Night on the town? Wine. Celebrating a birthday? Wine. Mourning a breakup? Wine. Work driving you crazy? Wine. And it is necessary to keep stocked up on wine, just in case any of these situations arise. You can never have too much wine. Even at the NZ Boutique Wine Festival, where there is over 200 varieties of New Zealand’s best boutique wines, from over 20 vineyards around the country, gathered under the roof of the Imperial Building.
This year the festival is back for round two. Attendees will have the chance to meet the boutique winemakers, and listen in on discussions and talks by leading New Zealand wine commentators on their industry knowledge. There will also be live music, blind tasting seminars and food and wine pairing on offer. The master class will be led by Wine editor Jo Burzynska and Master Sommelier Cameron Douglas (the guy tastes wine for a career - he knows what’s up). He is also New Zealand’s only Master Sommelier (where can I sign up?) with the Court of Master Sommeliers, and guest lectured at the International Culinary Centres in California and New York.
The featured vineyards this year include Staete Landt: self confessed wine-geeks from Malborough, Gillman: family-owned winery in Matakana, and Cambridge Road: viticulture extraordinaries from Martinborough. After a whole lot of wine guzzling, you might want to settler your stomach with Matterhorn head chef and Michelin-star chef, James Pask’s two-course set lunch at Everybody’s.
