Overview

Further proving yet again that firefighters are magical beings that are tougher and braver than the general populace, a flock of these brave men and women will be descending upon Piha beach and into the ungodly cold waters of the West Coast in order to compete in a mid-autumn surfing contest.

After the success of the inaugural NZFF National Surf Champs way back in 2004 it was decided that firefighters and water make a good pair and that the surf competition should become an annual event, a National Organising Committee even being formed just to make sure it happens.

Divisions include:
Open (all ages and genders)
Open Women’s
60 Plus
Novice (for those too busy fighting fires to figure out how to surf properly)
SUP Surf

The event caters for Volunteer and Professional Fire fighters of all skill level and age.
