Do all those Euro-summer holidays you've seen kicking off on your Instagram feed have you in the mood for some Italian fare? We can't provide the airfares, but we can give you the inside word on some of the best Italian eats right here in Auckland, served up by an under the radar team slinging pasta, pizzas and Euro-inspired cocktails at various locations around the city.
Passa Passa is already garnering a cult following for their pop-up restaurants which are a 'here today, gone tomorrow' type operation. If you manage to get along, you'll be rewarded with delicious eats like lamb maltagliati, mushroom pizza fritta and cacio e pepi arancini. But expect the unexpected — the small menu changes weekly.
For two weekends across May 20-21 and May 27-28, the Passa Passa team are taking over the chic Ozone cafe in Grey Lynn. Running from 5pm each night, DJ Keegan Fepuleai (aka Forrest Bump) will be on the decks to keep the tunes pumping, while a curated set menu will be on offer for $65 a head. According to Passa Passa owner Dan, small plates of charred travalli, anchovy topped pizza and merguez skewers will kick things off, before pappardelle pasta and sides of brussels and honey-topped endive will fill those bellies. And yes, there will be dessert.
