Overview

After creating work for the past 20 years and having only exhibited in group shows,  contemporary New Zealand artist Anna Leyland, who is known for her distinctive style, presents her first solo exhibition, Perception, next month.

Taking place at the Auckland's Allpress Gallery, Leyland's new exhibition presents a diverse selection of paintings and limited edition prints that she is well-known for. After becoming a mother in 2006, Leyland's work took on a new lease of life focusing on the multicultural heritage of her son. She draws upon influences from multiple cultures such as Fijian, Wallis and Futunan, Scottish, Hungarian and Kiwi, celebrating the multicultural talent and beauty that Aotearoa has to offer.

Many popular brands have adopted Leyland's style such as Nespresso, Mr Vintage, Auckland City Council and Orcon and her work has been featured in the New Zealand Herald, Viva, and Verve Magazine. Her work is now shown in 15 galleries throughout New Zealand and she is working towards growing and developing her work internationally.

"Perception is defined by 'the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses' or 'the way in which something is regarded, understood, or interpreted'". Leyland sets out to share her own perception through her work and doing so hopes to invoke others to think about their own.
