Prints are traditionally thought of as images easily and multiply reproduced. Print is, after all, the backbone of any industries based on repetition, like advertising (billboards, posters) and news (newspapers).

In Printmaking Beyond the Frame artists redefine the traditional conception of print - investigating a variety of new technologies and ideas while still retaining a common reference point in traditional printmaking processes. Their investigation includes the visual discussion about what defines prints and printmaking, a consideration of specific traditional techniques and the impact and absorption of newer technologies.

Guest exhibitors Kate Mclean, Alexis Neal and Jeff Thomson are established artists who print on various materials not generally associated with printmaking. Artist Jeff Thomson combines print with corrugated iron, Kate McLean prints on clay, and Alexis Neal weaves a range of print techniques and materials into work of two and three dimensions.
