Random Acts
In what is probably the epitome of a concrete playground, Random Acts is set to inject some serious fun into the ol' concrete slab that is Aotea Square.
Overview
What ever happened to that whole Occupy Auckland business that was going down in Aotea Square? I lost interest in the NZ version pretty quickly. Regardless, whether the squatters are still kicking it in the square or not, they're about to be joined by a whole new cast of kooky characters. In what is probably the epitome of a concrete playground, Random Acts is set to inject some serious fun into the ol' concrete slab that is Aotea Square.
In what can only be described as a collision of street art and theatre, this week Auckland can look forward to Aotea Square turning into a stage of theatrical, random awesomeness.
A gander out the window from nearby businesses will more than likely result in mass distraction over the next few days, with a line up promising everything from a cast of giants to aerial shows. Over the course of Random Acts there will be the construction of a huge red jigsaw that passer bys can help build as well as the transformation of a blank wall by tape (I'm not sure what this means, but I'm intrigued and sure it will be quite cool).
The whole jist of Random Acts is to create a festive atmosphere in the city. With the promise of three meter seagulls and a giant puppet family rosming around Aotea Square, it looks like the organisers have it clocked. There's a bit of after dark play going on too with a searchlight installation that will run each night from 9pm.
So move over occupy gang, there's a new crew about to hit the turf and 'fraid to say, it looks like they're gonna pip you for using Aotea Square in a much cooler way.
