Overview
Rhythm and Vines has been around for 15 years now. As well as attracting upwards of 250,000 concert-goers and shredders through the gates of Gisborne's Waiohika Estate, in its term the NYE institution has inspired historical live performances, naked world record attempts, impromptu weddings and a flame-shooting dance floor made out of an old cowshed.
The 500-odd acts that have graced the festival's stages are more than just names on a poster. They tell a story of pop culture and musical trends that shaped the New Zealand festival landscape; from bedroom producers to your mate's mate's band, and some of the biggest acts in the world.
To mark the festival's 15th anniversary and in line with the first lineup drop for 2017, organisers are dusting off the archives for a poster exhibition. Reflections will look at how the R&V poster and lineup has evolved over the years; from the BBQ reggae days of 2003 through the darling days of indie rock and drum and bass to the current growth of hip hop and EDM.
The exhibition aims to reflect on the past with a view to the future of New Zealand's longest lasting multi-day music and camping festival.
