Overview
Back in May, the 48 Hour Furious Filmmaking Festival was the most intense 48 hours of some talented New Zealanders' lives - as they pulled two consecutive all-nighters, consumed a gallon of coffee, and repeatedly slammed their fingers between the clappers as their hoarse throats attempted to yell 'Cut'. It was also the festival's 12th year running and was the biggest yet, entered by 10,000 aspiring filmmakers nationwide.
Now that those 10,000 participants, making up 800 teams have finally restored feeling in their fingers, the winners of the regional 48 hour competitions are starting to chew their nails in anticipation of the grand final. Auckland winners, titled Chess Club managed to write, shoot, edit and dub in a soundtrack for their musical (this year's genre) called "Bread Winner" in the allotted weekend, and have produced what they call Les Mis' with some Kill Bill on the side. This weekend will determine whether the unusual concoction is worthy of the $16,000 in cash grants, $15,000 post production time at Envy Studios, and $5,000 lighting hire prize.
Go along and support your team of choice at the grand final, watch the best internationally judged short films on the big screen, and witness the winner receive their title on stage.
