Roots Manuva
So get down to the Powerstation and witness the fitness of the man that The Times once declared was the voice of urban Britain.
Overview
It’s time to witness the fitness - live. British ragga/hip hop all-star Roots Manuva is set to turn the juice on at the Powerstation on Thursday 1 March 2012 and it’s your chance to get in front of the master.
Touring on the back of his new album 4everevolution, Roots Manuva aka Rodney Smith brings with him his live band giving NZ audiences the first chance to taste his new beats in the flesh.
‘The album takes in prowling street-rap, upbeat disco throwbacks, reggae and dancehall ragamuffin anthems with Stevie Wonder and George Clinton references a-plenty’ Garry Mulholland of the BBC says. Having listened to the album for the last few days I couldn’t agree more - it’s awesome and almost certain to become a house party and dance floor staple. If you’re a Roots Manuva fan, then you’ll already be familiar with Smith’s unrivaled ability to set gritty narratives against warped beats and rich bass lines. His impoverish childhood and South London upbringing often sets the scene for interesting and meaningful themes in his music and avoids the bullshit heard in contemporaries of his style.
