June 27, 2016

Overview

The multifaceted nature of portraits will be the core focus of a new exhibition taking residence at Franklin Arts Centre from July 9 to August 20.

The exhibition titled Rumours will see a well-rounded group of local artists exhibit their works including: New Zealand by-the-way-of France artist Anne-Sophie Adelys, Henrietta Harris who will be debuting pieces from her FIXED IT series that sees watercolour paintings 'fixed' with thick strokes of pink paint; Gavin Hurley who is known for his warped textural work with paper and aged illustrations from old books; Sam Mitchell who uses discoloured, dog-eared pages and rescued materials to support poignant watercolours; multi-disciplined painter Seraphine Pick, and Wayne Youle who playful addresses issues of identity, race and the commodification of cultural symbols.

The exhibition will be supported by a free portrait workshop with Port Waikato artist Robin Ranga on Saturday 6 August. The class will explore portrait painting in a unique way. All materials will be provided.
