Overview

There probably isn't a better way to give a final nod to the atmospheric, hip hop spot that Zen has become known for before it closes its doors, than a night with Samiyam on the decks. Barely letting the dust settle after the drop of his latest LP Sam Baker's Album a little over a month ago, Sam Baker, alias Samiyam, is returning to Auckland for a one night appearance at Zen Night Club.

Originally from Michigan, Baker now resides in Los Angeles, soaking up all that the hip hop inspired mecca has to offer. Perhaps better known for his collaborations with friend and old flat mate, Flying Lotus, his smooth instrumentally fused hip hop beats have been huge in influencing the unique soundscape; cropping up big time in the underground hip hop scene and frequenting one of the top hip hop bars in the States, Low End Theory.

A sell out show at Cassette on his last visit to Auckland saw him throwing down a faultless set covering everything from old school hip hop, heaviliy synthesized dub beats to funk, RnB and soul, along with a dabbling in a few unreleased tracks and collabs. You'll have to excuse the cliche, but with Samiyam it's a matter of expecting the unexpected, but for that unexpected to be next level.
