Overview

As well as holding their own behind an instrument, many of our local musicians traverse disciplines to scratch their creative itch. To celebrate NZ Music Month this May, Devonport's Depot Artspace will host an exhibition of visual art from some of the country's most talented all-rounders.

On display at Seen & Heard will be the unconventional and remarkable charcoal portraiture of former The Veils member, Liam Gerrard - think Helen Clark cloaked by eels, a rapid hyena made of hydrangeas and WWF superstars. Kody Nielson will showcase the twenty nine minimalist paintings he created for his latest project God Emoji under the banner Silicon; The Clean's Robert Scott will exhibit some of his comic-realist paintings, and there will be outtakes from the comic-strip Aroha Bridge, illustrated by emcee Coco Solid.

Further featured artists include: Archie Bowie (Underdogs), Ben Buchanan (Erik Ultimate), Bek Coogan (Sheville, Cortina), Stella Corkery (White Saucer), Tim Dustow (West Coast Bullies), Julien Dyne, Andrew McLeod (Evil Ocean, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), Lou Rawnsley (Underdogs), Gemma Syme (Instant Fantasy, Shocking Pinks), Dane Taylor (Invisible Threads, Evil Ocean) and Imogen Taylor (Ruby Suns).

The exhibition also includes a photographic display of contemporary New Zealand musicians and a video showcase of artists that have recorded in the onsite studio: Brendon Thomas & The Vibes, Hamilton County Bluegrass Band, Blue Ruin, Average Mars Experience, Sophie Mashlan and Swizl Jager.
