Overview
Summer wouldn't be complete without a bit of outdoor Shakespeare.
This year's offerings are two of the best: the fast-paced comedy Much Ado About Nothing and Othello, a tale of murderous jealousy. And just like at the Globe Theatre, there's always plenty of interaction with the audience and fabulous costumes.
In Much Ado About Nothing we meet Beatrice and Benedick, one of Shakespeare’s wittiest couples. In contrast Claudio and Hero are a sweet, young pair of lovers who are completely besotted with each another. Things come to a head in the fourth act and the apparent destruction of one marriage helps to bring about another.
Othello tells a far more sinister story. The good, honest man that is Othello is driven mad with jealousy in this drama of manipulation. His advisor Iago is the one who pulls the strings and drives Othello to kill his sweet wife Desdemona. For many Iago is Shakespeare's ultimate 'baddie'.
Shoreside Theatre's mix of professional and community actors have been entertaining the crowds with the Bard's plays every summer for the past 18 years.
