Overview

One of the treasures of Auckland's performing arts scene is bringing back her adored solo show. Yvette Parsons is Irene McMunn - Sunnynook resident and Christmas Day tea party hostess.

Silent Night elicits a strong sense of nostalgia for middle New Zealand. Irene welcomes us into her modest home as she awaits the arrival of her guests — and you could swear Parsons and producer Trish Phelan raided your great aunt's place to decorate the set. As Irene chats away to the audience, what first appears as a comedic one-act play evolves into a deeply heartfelt character study.

Parsons' portrayal of her devised character will undoubtedly leave audiences drawing comparisons to people that exist in their own lives. Ms McMunn takes up residence in the creatively vibrant venue that is Q Theatre for five nights only. For those who like their theatre shows to be poignant yet tinged with humour, Silent Night is a must-see.
