Overview

Press pause on your long weekend plans, the film of 2016 will play out under the stars at Silo Cinema this Friday. Adventure comedy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, is the latest local work from director, writer, actor Taika Waititi— a man who can hold a candle to the best in Hollywood. His latest projects include directing Marvel blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok and writing the first screenplay for animated feature Moana.

Shot in only five weeks with one camera, Hunt for the Wilderpeople made its premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival before opening across New Zealand last year and racking up over $12 million in ticket sales. It follows orphan Ricky Baker who is taken in by foster mother Bella and her husband Hec (Sam Neill). Drama and a national manhunt ensues.

The film was released to great acclaimed, scoring a rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and being named the number one film of 2016 by Empire magazine.

Make a night of it by rolling up to the waterfront space early— grab a bite to eat from vendor gathering spot Food Space, step up to the plate at Silo Park Slugger, and soak up the Silo Night Markets. Then sit back and enjoy the film at 9pm. Sounds pretty ideal to us.
