Start warming up those vocal chords — smash-hit musical The Sound of Music is en route to Auckland, and you're invited to unleash your operatic chops for an interactive cinema experience.
Auckland CBD's The Civic theatre will transport audiences into Fräulein Maria's cinematic world of songbird nuns, 'Do-Re-Mis' and the Austrian Alps on Saturday, 21 November for Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music.
The 1965 film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer will be presented on the big screen in its original Technicolour glory. The difference is that song subtitles will appear so you can sing, yodel, croon or groan your way through every unforgettable song. 'My Favorite Things', 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain', 'Maria' and 'Sixteen Going On Seventeen' will all be there.
Attendees are encouraged get into the spirit of the film and don their most elaborate and imaginative themed outfits. Expect to see The Civic bursting with gaggles of nuns, brown paper packages tied up with string, girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, goats and goat herders, and even the Austrian Alps themselves.
A host will lead the crowd in a pre-screening vocal warm-up, guide audience members through interactive actions, and crown the coveted best costume winner.
