Overview

There is zero doubt that Laneway organisers made the right call in pulling the plug on the Auckland event over the weekend in Auckland's sodden state (and State of Emergency). But if you're also mourning the absence of the annual one-day festival, we've got news that might brighten those damp spirits.

British rapper slowthai has announced a special one-off side gig on Wednesday to raise money for flood relief. That means Aucklanders will actually get the chance to hear hits like 'tried', 'Doorman' and 'Momentary Bliss' IRL — not just through a UE boom in the lounge.

Of course, it goes without saying that you should only attend if it's safe to do so. Another batch of rain is expected on Tuesday evening, so make your plans accordingly. But if you can safely get to Galatos on Wednesday, February 1 at 8pm, it's guaranteed to fill the Laneway void a little. Tickets are for sale through Under the Radar for $40 each, with all profits New Zealand Red Cross for humanitarian emergency support.
