Overview

What do lambik, berliner weisse, gose and wild ale have in common? They're all styles of sour beer that send a shockwave of acidity to the tongue. To help you learn more about the rising beer trend, 16 Tun is hosting the Sour Faces: Sour Beer Festival on August 25.

The team at the Wynyard Quarter craft beer hub are putting on this one day festival for the fans of the intentionally acidic beers, but also to encourage those who are yet to put their palate to the tart test.

Sour Faces, aptly named after the expression pulled when tasting something unexpectedly acidic, will have beers on tap and in bottle from local breweries such as McLeod's Brewery, Liberty Brewing, New New New Corporation and 8Wired, along with some pretty special international bottled sours from as far afield as the US and Sweden. Direct from Beervana comes Hop Federation's lemon, lime and glitter-infused beer on tap and an ale boasting wine barrel-aged cherries.

The bitter beverage fun starts at 3pm with sour beer and food pairings available throughout the day. Pucker up Auckland, this is going to be a good one.
