Overview
Now that we are spending a lot more time at home and the only house parties we're attending are virtual ones, you might find yourself reaching into your liquor cabinet a little more than usual in an effort to ward off cabin fever.
Thankfully a Wellington gin distillery has come to the party to help you fill the Friday night void and give you a decent excuse for quaffing your at-home gin supply. On Friday evenings throughout the lockdown period, Southward Distilling Co will be hosting live gin tastings on Instagram that are guaranteed to lift your spirits.
During the sessions, distiller Frankie McPhail will take viewers through a tasting of Southward classics, giving the lowdown on ingredients, flavour profiles and processing techniques. She'll also be sharing her tips for mixing, cooking, pairing and getting creative with gin. The sessions will be interactive, so you can have all your gin questions answered too.
Gin-thusiasts are invited to bring along their Southward stash to taste, but if all you can get your hands on is a dusty bottle of Gordons, that'll do the trick.
Frankie will change up the format a little each week to keep things fresh. On Friday, 3 April, a local bartender will join in (virtually) to teach you how to make a classic gimlet cocktail. Then on Friday, 10 April, you can partake in a virtual tour of the Southward distillery.
Southward Distilling Co is still open for business during the lockdown, so if you fancy shaking things up and trying a new tipple, you can order the goods online and have it delivered to your door.
