Overview

The Soweto Gospel Choir return to Auckland's Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre at the Aotea Centre on March 18 as part of the Auckland Arts Festival. The three-time Grammy award-winning choir invites you to immerse yourself in the inspirational and uplifting power of African gospel music. This performance entitled Freedom pays tribute to the father of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, and the rainbow nation's struggle for freedom.

For the 18-strong troupe, this will be their first New Zealand show in eight years and the 90-minute performance will fill the stage and the auditorium with bright colours and inspirational music performed by remarkable vocalists. Prepared to exhilarated as the choir performs both traditional and contemporary music in six of South Africa's eleven official languages.

Along with their traditional South African anthems and 'Songs of the Free', the choir will perform their famously spellbinding renditions of 'Amazing Grace' and 'Hallelujah'.
