Overview

In anticipation of Emirates Team New Zealand's defending the oldest trophy in international sport next year, a 5G-powered America's Cup sailing experience has launched in Auckland. The Spark 5G Race Zone is an immersive multi-sensory experience that gives New Zealanders the opportunity to feel, create, learn and even smell all things sailing — without getting on the water.

The experience is presented across seven interactive zones at the ETNZ base in Wynyard Quarter. From 1 October until the America's Cup in March 2021, visitors can feel what it's actually like onboard during a 4D virtual experience, build their own monohull sailboat and take it for a spin in a gaming environment, use a multi-crew sailing simulator, and capture selfies with the crew and the Auld Mug through augmented reality.

Visitors will also be able to see daily visual representations of wind particles on Waitematā Harbour and Hauraki Gulf and familiarise themselves with the America's Cup course through high-resolution projections.

The experience is free to the public and bookings can be made at spark.co.nz/racezone.
