Stellar

Artificial constellations spun across the sky.

Overview

Being a celebration of the Maori New Year attributed to the constellation of its namesake, the most apt way to celebrate Matariki is by enjoying Stellar, a series of creative and innovative lighting installations replicating the night sky. Seven separate installations represent the seven sisters of the Matariki myth, each coming with a story relevant to the New Year in Maori culture.

The illuminated path winds through Smales Farm on the North Shore, which you can wander along, or, if the thought of a nighttime stroll in midst of one of Auckland's chillier winters doesn't appeal, you can cruise along the drive-thru option from inside the comfort of your own heated vehicle.

Coffee and street food will be available to purchase on-site, so make an evening of it with the family, enjoy the lights, and celebrate the coming of the Maori New Year.
