Overview

Returning to the central city on Tuesday, 9 October, Late Night Art is an immersive, after-hours exhibition that allows the public to get creative at drop-in drawing classes, contribute to public art projects, see the very best local art and consume edible artworks.

A partnership between Heart of the City and Gather & Hunt, streetARTdego is a micro-festival within the event where food trucks pair up with local artists for a curated mashup of art and food. Held across Te Hā o Hine (formerly Khartoum Place), this year's offering will see five street food chefs and five contemporary artists unite to create a unique menu and art experience.

The Pie Piper will take classic 70s cocktail Tequila Sunrise and turn into a pie and doughnut, with accompanying performances from Last Tapes Theatre Company at 6pm and 8pm.

A collab with Ngahuia Harrison will see modern Chinese eatery Judge Bao pay homage to the use of steam in cooking through Maori hangi and Chinese techniques. There will be indigenous ingredients layered into their already imaginative bao creations — pohutukawa smoked mussels, agria, horopito fish cake and crispy seaweed.

Plant-based burger joint Wiseboys will take inspiration from Hanna Shim's exhibition Headless/Heartless for a faux fried 'chicken' burger featuring a bed of creamy slaw, pickles and spicy chipotle.

The Rolling Pin will serve a series of food illusions in response to the light exhibition Enlightenment from La Lumiere. Sweet soya caviar will appear as tiny light bulbs to garnish dumplings and a manuka smoked chilli tuile will cascade across dumplings like the curtain of light falling down the water feature at Te Ha O Hine.

Lowbrow's infamous fried chicken will be re-invigorated in response to Angus Muir's diffused, pixelated light box installations, Distort. The light art will include bitmaps of chicken, abstracted by zooming and blurring the imagery.

Entry is free and all dishes will be available for purchase.
