Overview

Returning to the central city on Tuesday, 15 October, Late Night Art is an immersive, after-hours exhibition that allows the public to get creative at drop-in drawing classes, contribute to public art projects, see the very best local art and consume edible artworks.

A partnership between Heart of the City and Artweek Auckland, StreetArtDego is a micro-festival within the event where food vendors pair up with local artists for a curated mashup of art and food. Held across Te Hā o Hine (formerly Khartoum Place), this year's offering will see five street food chefs and five contemporary artists unite to create a unique menu and art experience.

Contributors have been tasked with interpreting the concept of a post-climate change world through light, sound and taste.

Inspired by Leonardo DiCaprio's documentary After The FloodLa Le Le Organics has created Brown Earth, a chocolate and salted caramel vegan scoop, while a food illusion from The Rolling Pin will see dumplings dressed to highlight the irregularity of weather arising from the changing climate.

Elsewhere, plant-based burger joint Wise Boys will use faux fish for a beer-battered vegan offering, Grey Lynn's Pūhā & Pākehā will be serving up native ingredients in piko piko and edamame bites, and The Pie Piper will be cooking up a sweet pie.

La Lumiere's installation, a canopy of lights floating above the waterfall of the Suffragette fountain, hopes viewer will look away from day-to-day activities and question the importance of our natural environment, while Seung Yul Oh's upside-down work Seeds of order recognises that chaos is responsible for maintaining orderTo complete the experience, Drums of the Pacific will assemble for an acoustic Pacific drum performance and dance.

Entry is free and all dishes will be available for purchase.
