Overview

You may have noticed there are a lot more people riding bikes on the mean streets of Auckland these days, braving the famous unpredictable weather that can only be described as messy, and doing their best to avoid being slammed by car doors on Ponsonby Road.

If you feel left out, luckily for you the Auckland Tweed Run presents the Sunday Best Ride; an all ages, all stages ride that gives you a chance to dust off your vintage attire and dress to impress.

Finding its beginnings rather appropriately in the dapper streets of London and becoming an international phenomenon, a tweed run is as quirky as it sounds; a large group of people dressed in tweed and classy Sunday riding outfits cycling around the streets of a bustling city. Auckland’s ride will be a leisurely 15km ride, starting from the Auckland Domain and making it’s way past the Rose Gardens, via Ponsonby and the waterfront before returning to the domain.

I can hear you now, riding is just for hipsters with fixies - no gears, come on, have you seen Auckland’s hills? This isn’t about struggling your way into some ridiculously unforgiving lycra or heading out for a 100km ride. In fact, why wouldn’t you be keen? Think of how great your legs will look in time for summer, how happy you would be with all of those newly found endorphins and with the knowledge you are doing a great thing for the planet - carbon emissions, no thank you.

Of course for those of you with hipster tendencies and a soft spot for facial hair, imagine how perfect your neatly combed moustache would look as you are dressed in full tweed, and think of all of the potential moustache twirling action. Bonus points for vintage bicycles.
