Overview

The idea of creating a startup can be a daunting one — you don't have the security of a company environment and it's a lot to head out on your own. That's when networking with other creatives and founders becomes more important than ever.

Whether you've built your own startup or you just have an epic idea, you're going to want to head to Sunrise, a festival celebrating startups and the people who build them, returning to Aotearoa in September. Sunrise is created by Blackbird, a venture capital fund investing in ambitious startups from around Australia and New Zealand. After launching in Australia in 2014, this year marks only the second time the festival has come to New Zealand.

Taking place on Tuesday, September 2 at the ASB Waterfront Theatre, this year's festival is themed around solving problems with hard tech and rethinking the talent pipeline in NZ, with some of New Zealand's most successful startup founders on the lineup to tell their stories. Astrix Astronautics founder Fia Jones, Futureverse's Brooke Howard-Smith and Halter's Craig Piggott are all on the bill.

You might be inspired to head in a new creative direction — or you might even meet your new co-founder, mentor or just someone to download with at the end of a long day. Tickets are available to purchase online now.
