An evening of taco madness is once again on the cards as former Kōkako Cafe owner Troy Mentor brings his authentic Mexican pop-up, Children of the Corn, back to Newmarket.
The second Tacos! Tacos! Tacos! event will see Mentor joined by top model Ngahuia Williams, Huffer designer Steve Dunstan and Richard Nicholson in the kitchen at Newmarket's The Candy Shop and Camper Coffee on Sunday, 11 April.
Don't expect crispy Dorito creations or cheese-filled Tex-Mex flatbreads; each participant will cook up a snack-sized piece of themselves using only the finest hand-made corn tortillas. The 'Ngarco's' taco is purple Māori kūmara creation featuring salsa macha on a kawakawa-infused corn tortilla; the 'Carribean Dream' is a taco loaded with shrimp escabeche panucho, pork carnitas and chorizo on a corn tortilla; and the 'Mole Poblano' is served over a hand-made tamale.
Rounding off the $60 five-course menu will be dessert by Duck Island Ice Cream. In the beverage department you can expect mezcal margaritas, micheladas, palomas and cervezas. All profits will be donated to Auckland City Mission.
