Overview

Way back in 2017, Ponsonby eatery Orphans Kitchen worked in cahoots with a number of lauded Auckland eateries to produce a lineup of inventive two-course breakfasts. The series saw wild game restaurant Cazador and Northern Thai eatery Saan jump behind the stove to paint the genre of breakfast in an entirely different light.

Eggs benne and smashed avo will once again take a back seat this month as Orphans Kitchen invites Lebanese restaurant Gemmayze St across for brekkie. On Friday, 30 August from 7am–10.30am, Samir Allen (of Gemmayze St) and Tom Hishon (of Orphans Kitchen) will serve up a two-course Lebanese-inspired breakfast with accompanying juice and coffee pairings.

Tickets are $45 per head and online bookings are essential. Ten percent of proceeds from the breakfast will go to pay-as-you-feel restaurant, Everybody Eats. "It's such an important part of working in the hospitality industry to give back to those who don't usually get the chance to experience dining in a nice restaurant, whilst also dealing with the huge problem of food waste in Aotearoa" says Samir.
