The Burning Hours

Reaching across history, culture and society.
Sarah Murphy
December 02, 2017

Overview

Kushana Bush creates a unique visual language with her work that reaches across history, culture and society.

Using source material from thirteenth-century manuscripts to twentieth-century painters, the Dunedin-based artist is interested in how religious themes blend with secular narratives and how these often manifest in ritualistic violence.

The Burning Hours showcases the artists work made between 2014 and 2016.

In 2009, Kushana won the Art and Australia Contemporary Art Award, she has been the 2011 University of Otago Frances Hodgkins Fellow and was awarded the Arts Foundation New Zealand New Generation Award in 2013.

Be sure not to miss out on seeing her work in the flesh.
