The Controversial Film Festival

If you want to be entertained, shocked and perhaps even outraged.

Overview

In honour of quality films which have sparked debate and incited outrage amongst audiences worldwide; Academy Cinemas is hosting The Controversial Film Festival. These are films which have shocked viewers by confronting them with violence, visceral images and controversial ideas, but are of outstanding quality and immense cultural significance. While Hugh Grant's boyish charms are delightful, and charismatic superheroes beating up baddies is entertaining, it's films like these that push the boundaries of modern cinema, confronting us with their harsh truths and progressive themes.

There's only two showings left in this year's festival; cult horror I Spit On Your Grave (1978) and historical drama horror The Devils (1971), both of which are challenging but rewarding watches, with strong points on issues which are just as pertinent today. So if you want to be entertained, shocked and perhaps even outraged, journey to Academy Cinemas and take part in the celebration of these groundbreaking and controversial works of art.
