The Sugar Nights Project: Opera At The Bay
An Italian feast with live opera.
Overview
Auckland's iconic pink-hued sugar factory threw its doors open to the public late last year. As well as the newly-titled visitor attraction, Chelsea Bay Visitor and Food Education Centre, the harbour-side refinery welcomed Sugar at Chelsea Bay, an onsite bakery and eatery from hospitality couple Fran Mazza and Aaron Carson (Winona Forever, Major Tom, Friday I'm in Love, Fang). Open to the public seven days a week, the 80-seat venue is the place to unwind over Supreme coffee, brunch or glass of wine while taking in views of the Waitemata Harbour.
The eatery is now set to stay open later than usual as it presents The Sugar Nights Project. Volume one of the series on Saturday, 25 May will see live opera presented alongside a four-course meal. The Italian feast will star dishes like Milanese-style risotto, braised beef cheek, smoked provola and Tuscan tart, while live opera will feature between courses.
Tickets are $75 dollars and can be purchased at www.chelsea.co.nz/chelseabay/cafe or from the Visitor Centre reception.
